Therapists Who Take UnitedHealthcare

Five licensed counselors and therapists on our team accept UnitedHealthcare, for individuals, couples, families and teens.

UnitedHealthcare members

UnitedHealthcare is one of the largest insurers in Texas, offered by many employers. Five clinicians here accept it: Maggie Johnson, Dr. Sunetra Martinez, Michelle Mitchell, Kamau Richard and Torresy Smith.

Between them they cover teens, adults, older adults, couples and families, in person in Sugar Land and by video across Texas.

Who to see with UnitedHealthcare

Michelle Mitchell, LMFT: Couples, families and children from age 4. Dr. Sunetra Martinez: Teens and adults, in English or Bengali. Maggie Johnson, LPC: Individuals and couples, including faith-based counseling. Kamau Richard, LPC-S: Telehealth for anxiety, PTSD, grief and couples. Torresy Smith, LPC: Teens, young adults and athletes.

Behavioral health and Optum

On many UnitedHealthcare plans, mental health benefits are managed by Optum, so the phone number for behavioral health may be different from the main number on your card. The same five clinicians accept Optum.

Families on one plan

When a parent and a teen both want support, it helps that every UnitedHealthcare clinician here sees teens and adults. A teen can see Torresy Smith or Dr. Martinez while a parent sees Maggie Johnson, and Michelle Mitchell can bring the family together for joint sessions when that would help. With written permission, the clinicians can coordinate so everyone is working toward the same goals.
