Psychological Testing

Forensic Psychological Evaluations

Court-related evaluations, including fitness to proceed, from a licensed psychologist with juvenile justice and forensic training.

What a forensic evaluation is

A forensic evaluation answers a legal question rather than a treatment question. It follows strict procedures, and the report is written for attorneys, courts or agencies.

Evaluations offered

  • Fitness to proceed
  • Psychosexual evaluations
  • Risk and needs assessments for youth
  • Other court-related psychological evaluations, on request

Experience behind the work

Dr. Jenna Turner completed her predoctoral internship at the Travis County Juvenile Probation Department and her postdoctoral fellowship at the Harris County Juvenile Probation Department, conducting psychological evaluations and risk assessments for youth involved in the justice system.

Questions

Do you provide treatment as part of a forensic evaluation?

No. Evaluation and treatment are kept separate.

Who can refer?

Attorneys, courts, agencies and families.

Fitness to proceed

A fitness to proceed evaluation asks whether a person understands the legal process and can work with their attorney. It focuses on current abilities, and the report explains the findings in terms a court can use.

Youth evaluations

Dr. Turner's training in juvenile probation settings included psychological evaluations, psychosocial risk assessments, and treatment planning for at-risk and justice-involved youth. She is also pursuing licensure to provide sex offender treatment and is training in the assessment and treatment of youth with problematic sexual behaviors.

Confidentiality in forensic work

Forensic evaluations are not confidential in the way therapy is. Results go to the party who requested the evaluation, and we explain those limits to the person being evaluated before we begin.
