I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and have been practicing for over 20 years. I completed my undergraduate degree in psychology at Northwestern University and my graduate training at UNC, Chapel Hill. I worked at Duke University Medical Center in health psychology before moving to Texas in 2004. I have worked in university counseling for 10 years and have extensive experience working with young adults. I also see adults across the lifespan. I have specialized training in treatment of depression, anxiety, and trauma using cognitive-behavioral therapy. I have interests in adoption, coping with fertility issues and medical illness. I also work with medical students, residents, and fellows at Baylor College of Medicine.
I believe that how you think about yourself, the world and others profoundly influences how you feel. I encourage clients to develop a deeper understanding of how and why they think, behave and feel as they do. With this understanding, clients are then actively encouraged and supported in trying out new ways being. My job is to help you gain insight and to translate that insight into real change so that you can feel better and lead the life you seek.
I understand the pressures of modern family life and the challenges facing adolescents, young adults and their families. I can help you develop positive coping strategies for navigating a variety of distressing life experiences.

For me, helping patients is not just a job, but is a skill. So many times I have heard that doctors talked to their patients for less than 10 minutes or that they were dismissive of them. I became a dual-certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) so that I could begin creating a change. A change in our healthcare system where patients feel valued, feel heard, and are getting their needs met. I work collaboratively with our counselors to provide the needed medication services along with counseling that patients need to be able to feel their best. My main goal is to make sure you are getting the care you need.

This means that I look at the patient as a whole and we rule out and/or treat underlying physical health issues that so often mask themselves as mental health conditions. This helps to more quickly improve overall symptoms and by giving you more treatment options.
