Psychological Testing

Personality Testing and Diagnostic Clarification

For when the diagnosis is unclear, treatment has stalled, or you and your therapist want a fuller picture of mood and personality.

When the label does not fit

Some people have collected several diagnoses over the years and none quite fits. Some have tried treatment that should have helped and did not. A focused evaluation can clarify what is going on and point treatment in the right direction.

Questions we can help answer

  • Is this depression, bipolar disorder, or something else?
  • Is anxiety the main problem or a symptom of something else?
  • How do personality and coping style shape the problem?
  • What treatment approach is most likely to help?

Questions

Can my therapist refer me?

Yes. Referrals from therapists, physicians and psychiatrists are welcome.

Who tends to benefit

Adults with long histories of treatment that has not helped, teens whose behavior has changed and does not fit a simple label, and people preparing to start a new treatment who want to get the diagnosis right first. Therapists and psychiatrists also refer clients when they want a second set of eyes.

What personality testing is and is not

Personality testing describes how you tend to think, feel and relate to people, and how you cope under stress. It is not a judgment of character. The results help explain why some situations are harder for you than others, and what kind of therapy is most likely to fit.

Mood and anxiety questions

When depression keeps coming back, when anxiety is constant, or when mood swings raise the question of bipolar disorder, structured testing helps sort these apart. Getting that right matters, because the treatments differ.
