Therapists Who Take UMR

UMR administers health plans for many Texas employers. Five of our clinicians accept UMR plans for therapy.

What UMR is

UMR is a third-party administrator. Instead of selling insurance directly, it runs health plans on behalf of employers, school districts and other organizations that fund their own benefits. That is why your card may show your employer's name alongside UMR.

Benefits on UMR plans are set by the employer, so two UMR members can have quite different coverage.

Clinicians who take UMR

  • Maggie Johnson, LPC
  • Dr. Sunetra Martinez
  • Michelle Mitchell, LMFT
  • Kamau Richard, LPC-S
  • Torresy Smith, LPC

Why the call to UMR matters most

Because each employer designs its own UMR plan, the only reliable answer about your mental health benefits comes from the number on your card. Ask the questions below and write down the date and the name of the person you spoke with.

Questions to ask UMR

  • Are outpatient mental health visits covered, and do I need prior authorization?
  • What is my copay or coinsurance per session?
  • How much of my deductible is left?
  • Are telehealth sessions covered the same way?

Getting started

School district and employer plans

Many school districts, hospitals and large Houston-area employers fund their own health plans and use UMR to run them. If you work for one of them, your family members on the plan may be able to see a clinician here too. Teens can see Torresy Smith or Dr. Martinez, and Michelle Mitchell sees children and whole families.

UMR questions

Is UMR the same as UnitedHealthcare?

UMR is connected with UnitedHealthcare but administers employer-funded plans. Your card tells you which you have.

Does UMR cover testing here?

No. Psychological testing is private pay.

Can my teen be seen with my UMR plan?

Yes, if your plan covers dependents. All five clinicians see teens.
