Therapy

Counseling for ADHD

After an ADHD diagnosis, therapy helps with the day-to-day: organization, time, follow-through, emotions, and the toll of years of feeling behind.

Living with ADHD

ADHD affects more than attention. It shapes how you manage time, money, emotions and relationships. Many adults with ADHD carry years of being called careless or lazy, and that story can be as heavy as the symptoms themselves.

What counseling focuses on

  • Systems for planning, time and reminders
  • Breaking tasks into startable steps
  • Emotional regulation and frustration
  • Self-esteem after years of struggle
  • School and work strategies
  • Parenting a child with ADHD
  • Relationships where ADHD causes friction

A typical plan

  1. 1.

    Clarify

Confirm the diagnosis or get an evaluation if you have not had one.

  2. 2.

    Build systems

Set up tools that fit how your brain works.

  3. 3.

    Practice

Weekly goals and check-ins to make the systems stick.

  4. 4.

    Coordinate

Bring in medication support or school accommodations if helpful.

Testing and medication under one roof

If you have not been evaluated, our testing team can do an ADHD evaluation. If medication makes sense, our prescribers offer non-stimulant options by telehealth and coordinate with your counselor.

For parents

Children with ADHD do best when home and school use similar strategies. Our child therapists coach parents on routines, rewards and calm limits.

Questions

Can therapy help without medication?

Yes. Skills-based therapy helps many people, with or without medication.

Do you work with adults?

Yes.

Your first session

Bring any past evaluation reports and a list of the situations that cause the most trouble, such as mornings, deadlines or paperwork. Your counselor will pick one area to start with and help you set up a simple system to try that week.

Adults who were diagnosed late

Finding out about ADHD as an adult often brings relief and grief at the same time. Counseling gives room for both, along with practical help for the years ahead.
