About Nikki
Nikki Holmes is a former school counselor with 19 years of experience working with children and adolescents in individual and group counseling. She earned her bachelor's degree in Academic Studies and her master's degree in counseling education from Sam Houston State University.
She has worked with children diagnosed with ADHD, autism, behavioral concerns and learning disabilities, and with children who have experienced trauma. Her work helps children build coping skills, social skills and emotional regulation, and feel better about themselves. She also works with adults experiencing grief, using the Grief Recovery Method.
For Nikki, a trust-based relationship comes first. She believes trust and safety have to exist before therapy can help, so the early sessions focus on getting to know your child and building that footing.
Her approach is eclectic and includes client-centered, cognitive behavioral, solution-focused and art therapy techniques. She is trained in Trust-Based Relational Intervention and in QPR suicide prevention. Nikki practices under the clinical supervision of Dr. Sunetra Martinez, LPC-S.

A first appointment
With children, Nikki spends the first sessions building trust through play and conversation, and meets with parents to learn about home and school. She explains how she will share progress and what parents can try at home.
