Autism Evaluations for Adults
If you have always felt slightly out of step with other people and recently recognized yourself in descriptions of autism, an adult evaluation can give you a clear and respectful answer.
Why adults ask
Many autistic adults learned early to study other people and copy what worked. That effort can hide autism for decades while leaving you exhausted after social events, overwhelmed by noise or change, and unsure why relationships take so much work.
Adults often come to us after a child or relative is diagnosed, after reading accounts written by autistic adults, or after years of treatment for anxiety or depression that never quite explained everything.
Experiences adults often describe
- Social conversation that feels like a performance
- Needing long recovery time after busy days
- Strong reactions to sound, light, texture or smell
- Deep, focused interests
- A strong preference for routine and predictability
- Being told you are blunt when you meant to be clear

What an evaluation can and cannot do
An evaluation tells you whether autism fits, and if not, what else may explain your experience. It cannot change who you are, and it is not meant to. Most adults tell us the value is in understanding themselves and knowing what supports to ask for.

Questions
Do I need my parents to come?
No. Early history helps when it is available, but many adults are evaluated without a parent involved.
What if the answer is not autism?
Your evaluator explains what the results do show, such as anxiety, ADHD or another explanation, and what would help.
Can I continue with therapy afterward?
Yes. Several of our therapists work with autistic teens and adults.
Life after an answer
Adults who learn they are autistic often start adjusting things that used to feel like personal failures: building in quiet time after work, asking for written instructions, choosing quieter places to meet friends, or explaining their communication style to a partner. Your report can suggest supports for work and home, and you decide who sees it.
