Psychiatric Evaluations by Telehealth
Your first medication visit is a full psychiatric evaluation by video. Here is what it covers, how to prepare, and what happens next.
What a psychiatric evaluation is
A psychiatric evaluation is a longer first appointment with a prescriber. It looks at your current symptoms, history, health and goals, and ends with a shared plan. That plan may include medication, a change to medication you already take, therapy, or simply more information before deciding.
All of our medication visits are by video, so you can join from home or any private place in Texas.
What your prescriber will ask about
- Current symptoms and when they started
- Past diagnoses and treatment, including what helped
- Every medication and supplement you take
- Medical conditions, allergies and recent lab work
- Sleep, alcohol and substance use
- Family history of mental health conditions
How to prepare
- 1.
Make a list
Write down your medications and doses, or have the bottles nearby.
- 2.
Note your goals
Think about what you most want to feel or do differently.
- 3.
Find a private spot
A quiet room with a good connection, and your camera on.
- 4.
Bring questions
Side effects, how long changes take, and what follow-up looks like.

After the first visit
If you and your prescriber agree on a medication, follow-up visits are scheduled to check how it is working and adjust if needed. Follow-ups are shorter than the first evaluation. If you see a therapist here, your prescriber can coordinate with them with your written permission.

Questions
Do you prescribe stimulants?
Our prescribers offer non-stimulant psychiatric medications.
How soon can I be seen?
Often within a week.
Do I have to be in therapy here?
No, but many clients find it helps to have both in one practice.
What if I am in crisis?
Call or text 988, or call 911. A scheduled evaluation is not the right place for an emergency.
Why video works well for medication care
Most of a psychiatric evaluation is careful conversation, which works well over video. Joining from home saves a drive across Fort Bend County or Houston traffic and makes follow-ups easier to keep. You need to be physically located in Texas at the time of each visit.
Request a psychiatric evaluation
Request a medication consultation with Dr. Diaz in the client portal, or call or text 832-876-3232.
