Therapy and Medication, Coordinated in One Practice
At Sugar Land Counseling Center your therapist and your medication provider work in the same practice, so with your permission they can talk to each other instead of working from separate notes.
Why coordination matters
When therapy and medication happen in different places, each provider sees only part of the picture. A prescriber may not know that a hard month at work explains a dip in mood, and a therapist may not know a dose was just changed.
Under one roof, and only with your written permission, your clinicians can share what helps them help you.
What coordination can look like
- Your therapist suggests a medication evaluation and helps you prepare for it
- Your prescriber checks in with your therapist before changing a dose
- Both know your goals and are working toward the same ones
- Testing results reach both providers, so treatment matches the findings
- One practice to call with questions about scheduling or billing
How to set it up
- 1.
Start where you are
Begin with therapy, medication or testing, whichever you need first.
- 2.
Sign a release
Your written permission lets your clinicians share information; you decide what is shared.
- 3.
Add the other service
Request the second service in the client portal or ask your clinician to refer you.
- 4.
Review together
Check in about whether the combined plan is working.

You stay in charge
Coordinated care does not mean everyone knows everything. You choose what is shared, with whom, and you can change your mind. Your privacy rights are described in the paperwork you receive at intake.

Questions
Do I have to use both services here?
No. Many clients see only a therapist or only a prescriber here and work with outside providers for the rest.
Is coordination automatic?
No. It happens only with your written permission.
Can my outside doctor be included?
Yes, with a release you sign for that provider.
An example of how it works
Say you have been seeing a therapist here for anxiety and still cannot sleep. Your therapist suggests a medication evaluation, you request it in the portal, and with your permission the prescriber already knows the background before the first video visit. Weeks later, if a dose change affects how you feel in sessions, your therapist and prescriber can compare notes rather than you having to relay everything yourself.
