Walk-and-Talk Therapy by the Lake
Some people think more clearly side by side, moving, than face to face in a chair. Our office sits on a lakeside walking trail by the fountains.
Therapy, outside
Walk-and-talk therapy is a regular session held while walking. Instead of sitting across from your therapist, you walk beside them along the trail by our Kensington Drive office, past the lake and fountains. Many people find it easier to open up when they are not facing someone directly.
Who tends to like it
- People who feel restless sitting still
- Teens and adults who find eye contact uncomfortable
- Clients working on stress, low mood or feeling stuck
- People who process best while moving
- Anyone who simply enjoys being outdoors

Our setting
Sugar Land Counseling Center is a free-standing building on the water at the end of Kensington Drive, behind the shopping center, with a walking trail by the fountains. It is a quiet place to walk, a few steps from the office door.
How a walking session works
- 1.
Ask first
Tell us you are interested when you book or at a session.
- 2.
Start inside
Your first visit usually happens in the office to cover history and goals.
- 3.
Walk
Sessions follow the trail at an easy pace, with breaks whenever you want.
- 4.
Back to the office
If something needs more privacy, you can always finish inside.
Good to know
- Availability
- By request, with clinicians who offer it
- Weather
- Texas heat and storms mean some sessions move indoors
- What to bring
- Comfortable shoes and water
- Privacy
- We pause or change direction if others are close by
Privacy outdoors
Your therapist will talk with you about privacy before you walk. On a public trail you may pass other people, and you decide how comfortable you are with that.
Who offers walking sessions
Walk-and-talk is offered by request, and only some clinicians who see clients at our Sugar Land office offer it. Call or text 832-876-3232 and we will tell you which of our clinicians offer this right now, and help you choose.
Questions
Is walk-and-talk available with every clinician?
No. It is offered by request with clinicians who choose to provide it; call us and we will tell you who.
What if I cannot walk far?
We go at your pace, and there are places to sit.
Is it as effective as office therapy?
It is the same therapy in a different setting. If it does not suit you, sessions return to the office.
Can children do walk-and-talk?
Ask us. It depends on the clinician and the child, and parents are part of that decision.
