Evaluations After a Brain Injury or Concussion
When memory, focus or mood has changed after a concussion, fall, accident or other brain injury, testing can measure what changed and guide recovery.
When people ask for this evaluation
After a car accident, a sports injury, a fall or a medical event, some people notice they lose their train of thought, forget conversations, tire quickly or feel more irritable than before. Family members often see the change first.
A neuropsychological evaluation measures these skills directly. It can show what has changed, what remains strong, and what supports would help at home, school or work.
Areas we measure
- Attention and concentration
- Learning and memory
- Processing speed
- Language and word finding
- Planning, organization and problem solving
- Mood and emotional changes that often follow an injury
How the evaluation works
- 1.
Interview
We review the injury, medical history, symptoms and how daily life has changed. A family member is welcome to join.
- 2.
Records
Bring imaging results, discharge summaries and names of your treating doctors if you have them.
- 3.
Testing
Standardized tests given in person, with breaks, often with our psychometrician Shelby Taylor.
- 4.
Feedback and report
Dr. Turner explains the results and provides a written report with recommendations.

Working with your medical team
This evaluation complements, and does not replace, care from your physician or neurologist. With your written permission, the report can be shared with them to help plan rehabilitation, a return to work or school, or other next steps.

Questions
How soon after an injury should I be tested?
It depends on the injury and your doctor's advice. Call us and we can talk through timing.
Can this be used for a legal case?
Forensic and court-related evaluations are a separate service. Tell us at the start if the evaluation is connected to a legal matter.
What if I have new or worsening symptoms?
Sudden or worsening symptoms after a head injury need prompt medical care. Call your doctor, or 911 in an emergency.
Why a baseline helps
Repeat testing months later can show whether skills are recovering and how quickly. A first evaluation gives you and your doctors a measured starting point, which makes later decisions about returning to work, school, driving or sports easier to make with confidence rather than guesswork.
