YOUR MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS

It’s important to be aware of what’s going on with your physical health. In fact, there’s very little stigma associated with caring for your physical health. That’s great! Physical health is very important, we only have one body. However, our mental health is just as important, and if our mental health is good, it’s very likely that our physical health could improve (and vice versa). Sadly, we often neglect our mental health for a variety of reasons. Rather than get into why we neglect it, let’s look at what you can do to be more supportive of your own mental health. Some of these ideas may be easy for you to implement, and some may be out of your comfort zone. I want to challenge you to trust the process and give yourself permission to take special care of your mind.
Here are 10 ways you can take care of your mental health:
- Make a list of things you are thankful for.
- Find a mindfulness app, download it, and engage in a mindfulness activity each day for 7 days. Some mindfulness apps to choose from include Headspace, Calm, 10% Happier, Aura
- Volunteer-Yes! Helping others will make you feel better.
- Do a physical activity that you ENJOY (enjoy is the key word).
- Spend time relaxing with people you enjoy being with.
- Get a massage. You deserve it!
- Doodle or color. Just try it.
- Take a break. Go outside and experience the sunshine for a few minutes.
- Take a break from the digital world. Put the phone away for a bit.
- Develop an affirmation for yourself and repeat it throughout the day for at least 7 days.
The most important thing to remember about taking care of your mental health is that you’re not alone. If you feel overwhelmed or just unhappy with the way your life is going, seek support via therapy. You deserve to experience your best life. It would be an honor to help you discover what that looks like for yourself. Remember, you matter, and you deserve to be mentally and physically healthy.
