Telehealth or In-Person Therapy: Which Is Right for You?

Both work well for most people. The better choice usually comes down to your schedule, your privacy at home, the kind of care you need, and simply what helps you open up.

The short answer

Choose telehealth if travel time, child care, mobility or a packed schedule would make regular sessions hard, and you have a private space at home or in a parked car. Choose in person if home is not private, if screens leave you distracted, or if you simply talk more easily in a room with someone. Many clients mix the two.

Telehealth tends to suit

  • Busy professionals fitting sessions between meetings
  • Parents who cannot easily leave the house
  • People anywhere in Texas who live far from Sugar Land
  • Medication management, which is by telehealth here
  • Anyone who feels more relaxed at home

In person tends to suit

  • Young children, who often do better with play in a room
  • People without a private space at home
  • Clients who find video tiring or distracting
  • Psychological testing and hypnosis, which happen in our Sugar Land office
  • Anyone who wants the walk out of the house to mark the start of a session

Our office

Our office is a free-standing building on the lake at the end of Kensington Drive in Sugar Land, with quiet rooms and a walking trail by the fountains. For some people, leaving home and sitting somewhere calm is part of what helps.

Making telehealth work

  1. 1.

    Find privacy

A closed room, headphones or a parked car.

  2. 2.

    Check your setup

A phone or computer with a camera and a reliable connection.

  3. 3.

    Stay in Texas

You must be located in Texas at the time of each session.

  4. 4.

    Protect the time

Silence notifications as you would in an office.

Choosing a clinician

Not every clinician offers both. Dr. Kiran Mishra, Dr. Sneha Desai and Kamau Richard see clients by telehealth, while our testing team and hypnosis practitioner work in person. Find a Clinician lets you filter by format.

Questions

Is telehealth as effective as in person?

For many concerns, yes. What matters most is a good fit with your therapist and showing up regularly.

Can I switch later?

Often, yes, if your clinician offers both formats.

What if I am traveling outside Texas?

Our clinicians can only see you while you are located in Texas.
